Main Stream Media: Still Sucks

Arizona (INEPT) - The media is at it again. Because there is nothing worthwhile to report (apparently) about the pending SuperBore, those poor writers of the Main Stream Media hope and beg for some player to say something that sounds somewhat insulting to some other players. This quote is what they got out of monster wide receiver Plaxico Burress:
"We have guys that can go out and do things just as well or maybe better than some of those guys," he said last week.
Wow, you have guys that can do things just as well or maybe better than some of those guys? (emphasis ours) Well, that is basically true by default. It is true, for example, if Plaxico Burress does something as well as the worst wide receiver on the Patriots. A harmless little statement, basically saying: "we have some pretty good players too." No big deal, unless you are the MSM. Then, you make stuff up, and put it in the headlines. Some examples:
  • Pats don't bite on Ex-Spartan star Burress' boast. From the Detroit Free Press. Nice work, Detroit. Maybe focus on criticizing the Lions, instead of making misleading headlines about a guy from MSU. Who are the Lions, you ask? They are a football team, kind of. Well, maybe one day.

  • Patriots respond to Plaxico Burress' boast, don't take Giant bait. From Hank Gola, of the New York Daily News. Gee, Hank, maybe you should try to help your guys win, instead of giving the opposition more motivation. Of course, later in the article, Hank admits, "Burress' comments don't necessarily qualify as trash talk, because he's right in one respect. There are certain things the Giants receivers do better, like beating the bump-and-run physicality the Packers threw at them." Too little, too late, Hank. Damage done. But nice use of the phrase "bump-and-run". That shows you have a high football IQ.

  • Burress: Giants WRs better. That is what the link to the same silly AP story says on ESPN's site. Well done, ESPN, you bastion of high-quality reporting. Maybe you should ask Kirk Herbstreit what his inside sources are saying. What's that? He thinks Les Miles is going to Michigan?! Wow!

  • Giants' Burress Says Giants As Good As Pats. This generically poor headline was put forth by the crack staff at WLBZ in Bangor, Maine. Please, Bangor, stick to what you do best. Like the American Folk Festival, and lobster. Mmmmm, buttery lobster.

So the MSM keeps stirring the pot, while basically nothing interesting is being said. The only good news: there is only one week left.

The amount of whining and sniveling on this page is unbelievable. You losers are really convinced that a camera intern is single-handedly responsible for three Super Bowls. The lack of both football knowledge and backbone on this blog is amazing....GO PATS!

HIC, I am disappointed, you moronic bitch.

Plax had NO REASON to say anything he did.

I'm sorry, but if RH had said something like that, you'd all be turning it into something just as "stupid". And the MSM were the ones who opened their mouths about Brady's foot, which has no impact right now on his game. So don't whine like an ass about how they keep the hype up.

Giantsbitch will definitely come back now and start saying stupid arguments about how Brady is gay-looking, and how Plax Burress is completely not at fault for his inability to keep his mouth shut.

Here's to the Pats offense decimation of the G-men.

Why did you title the link "Burress: Giants WRs better"? I clicked on it, and doesn't have anything to do with AP or ESPN. It's about the Journal Star. And the article is actually titled, "Dirty linemen, edgy receivers".

Come on HIC, you're making this too easy for me.

Hater in Chief,
You are the man!! This blog of yours simply admits one thing: YOU ARE SCARED OF BILL BELICHICK!! You make me laugh! WAHAHAHA!!!
I understand your concern and can feel you trembling even now. What the main stream media and Burress did is obviously feed some bulletin board material for our favorite mad scientist! Burress basically insinuated that the Giant receivers are better than the Patriots' wideouts. (I can't believe he didn't choke)

Now not that he really needs it, since this is the Superbowl and the Patriots are as professional a team as there is, but make no mistake about it: Bill's got that one in his hip-pocket and will most assuredly use it to stir up the 300, and provide them with even more anger and a passion...to destroy.

ONE MORE GAME TO GLORY. NO PRISONERS. NO MERCY.

"the Patriots are as professional a team as there is"

I might have taken that comment out of context, but man, what an untruthful statement THAT is.

Anyway, I'm really here to reply to "Disgusted Pats Fan" who called me "Giantsbitch" saying I would talk about gay-looking Brady (which he is, but it's irrelevant here) and back Plaxico Burress. If you read some other posts on other subjects, this Plaxico has already been addressed by some Patriots fans (that feel the need to hang around hate sites) AND Giantsbitches like myself, and I never did condone him saying anything like that. I understand his frustration, but that doesn't justify him spewing off at the mouth. There, Giantsbitch has spoken.

Thanks for thinking of me!

"(Which he is, but it's irrelevant here)"

You don't disappoint, as usual.

Plax always found something wrong with what the Pats played, even though nothing happened. First the whining about the calls, then this!

Jesus Christ.

Seems to me the only guy not talking a bunch of smack is Strahan who said EVERYBODY in the NFL plays dirty, while OSI continues to poke the bear called Matt Light (although I gotta imagine he says stuff on the field to get your goat, Osi, if you carry that as baggage, then that's your stupidity at work and he's already won). Said on HBO that he's got somehting for Matt - a clever comeback four weeks later, maybe? You gotta think faster than that to survive in this league.

Anyhow, Plax is just as fulla crap as the rest of them. We'll see who does what as good as or better than who. See you in the record books.

We gave Tom a shave and a haircut and sent him on his way this morning. Gave him a little somehtign to take the edge off that limp. But he beat the Chargers injured and he can break a leg during the Giants game and still come out ahead.

The media wants to fuel the fire. Loaded questions abound. What is Plaxico supposed to say, 'we stink, they are better...'

Best to serve up vanilla answers and shirk the questions.

Thanks Mike, but you really shouldn't excuse Burress who's been in the league forever now. How many times has he spoken to the media? He should know what not to say, but Burress comes from the Pittsburgh Steelers who can't resist running their mouths. Where has that gotten those golf-players? Well now, Plaxi has decided to be again be the Nostrodumbass of the team by predicting a 23-17 Giant victory. It seems like on other teams everyone wants to be Namath I guess.

On the other hand, the great thing about the Patriots, clearly one of the most professional teams out there, is that you will hear none of this foolishness. The talking gets done on the field and after the game is over. I think Burress is smoking some of the fine quality New York doubage because there's simply no evidence that the Giants can hold the Patriots to 17 points.

Who will win this game depends on who plays better. But this is an interesting game. I can't recall such a game where so much history was on the line. If the Patriots win, people will talk about this undefeated team forever. Tom Brady will be considered by many people to be THE greatest quarterback to have ever played the game and Belichick will be considered the best coach ever.

If the Giants were to pull off the upset, and they can do it under the right conditions, they'd shock the world. It would be an upset even bigger than when the Jets beat the Colts. But like Boomer Esiason said, I just don't think it's going to happen.

I think the Patriots Offense is going to attack and attack and attack some more. The Patriot Defense will slow the Giants down to the point where eventually the Giants will not be able to match the Patriots in points scored. And then, it will be over...

NO PRISONERS..NO MERCY.

Chip Dawg,

Thanks for that intelligent post. I actually enjoyed reading it.

Of course, I wholeheartedly want the Giants to have that upset, but what do you expect me to want/say? It will take the right conditions, like you said, and it will take lots and lots of luck, but it isn't beyond the realm of possibility. You know what I can't stand is all this hype. It's like they make up stories to print, just for something to say. Of course, I live in New England, so I am turning off all local newscasts, but I would do that anytime the Patriots are in the Super Bowl. But even the national coverage on Sportscenter is just sickening. I'm thrilled that the Giants are there, but enough is enough with reaching for more and more storylines. Let's play the game already!

Oh yeah, about the Plaxico thing. While I don't think it was a wise choice to say anything at all, what is he SUPPOSED to say? He's not going to say "yeah, they are better than us in every way and we're gonna lose." I mean, what do people expect? He's trying to say SOMETHING, even though it isn't coming out right.

The Patriots press conferences, as usual, as cocky and subdued. I realize this has worked for them for the past how many years. That's their way. This doesn't mean that every other team out there has to be like them. Maybe other teams want a different personality!

This is a clean slate, coming into the Super Bowl. The Patriots may be unbeaten, but they are have proven, near the end of the season, that they have holes and are beatable. Will the Giants do it? I hope so. But if not, at least the Giants have to approach the game like they will win it. Otherwise, it will be a bore to watch.

"about the Plaxico thing ... what is he SUPPOSED to say?
How about, "I think our team is good enough to beat that Patriots," or "We're confident that we can win." Nothing wrong with that - every one who plays in the SB should feel good about their chances, otherwise they shouldn't bother playing.
What he SHOULDN'T be doing is predicting the score:
"BOLD BURRESS CALLS FOR 23-17 GIANT WIN"
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01292008/sports/giants/com_plax_numbers_363212.htm

I mean, that's just stupid. Leave that job for the pundits.

I left my comment before Plaxico started spewing his predictions. That I don't condone. It's reminiscent of Pierce's comments about Brady being the "Golden Boy," of the NFL which made me want to bitch slap him through the tv. The last thing the Patriots need is locker room material.

That being said, for Plaxico's single comment, there will be dozens of comments from the Giants locker room that show respect for the Patriots. That's part of the game. You have to find where to draw the line between confidence and cockiness.

Again, the media fuels the fire. They were asking Eli the other night about Joe Namath's guarantee trying to bait him. He obviously didn't take the bait. Guys with too much fire and more physical prowess than mental may end up shooting themselves in the foot. All Plaxico need do is focus on what he needs to do on Sunday.

Giants Fan,
For once I agree with you. Can they play the game, say, today? How about tomorrow? Two weeks of hype is ridiculous. If I have to hear another story about Brady's boot, I'll vomit in my mouth for the upteenth time.
Today's media day, so Lord only know's what's going to be asked and said. Dennis and Callahan told Brady that the media, some sports reporters / some outside of sports, will be absolutely coming at him from every angle possible. It'll be like he stepped on beehive. So I guess waiting for stupid quotes will be our only source of entertainment for the next few days. So sad.

NO SAD PRISONERS..NO PATHETIC MERCY.

Man, this media day crap is finally over. I only watched the Giants part (naturally) but its all so damned redundant. It's not like these people don't address the media anyway. Maybe it was fun when there were no press conferences held until media day, but now it's just something else to dread. I'm just glad the Giants came away without saying anything too stupid. I can't get over Jeff Feagles is almost 42! I knew he was on the old side, but nearly 42? Good for him!

I think I'm gonna take a nap until Sunday night. All this hype is getting sickening.
