i don't think you really have to "get" anyone to hate the Patriots. it's the same way you don't have to "convince" someone to hate Hitler - he just kind of does the job for you.

Locke,
If you're comparing a football team, which broke an NFL rule, to Adolf Hitler, who had 6 million Jews murdered and ordered the invasion of Russia, which caused the deaths of 20-30 million Russians, I'd say your values are a little fucked up. Perhaps you should go back to the drawing board on that one. The New England Patriots don't have anyone whose even broken any serious laws, but can the rest of the league say the same? The names and the teams need not be mentioned, but I think not.

The Patriots broke the rules, yes (And they were punnished). It really isn't that different from the salary cap cheating going on years ago by the 49ers or the coach tampering committed by the Jets during our superbowl week againt the Packers. These things happen.....I'll admit. They are rampant.

Haters, you just need to get over it and move on......you're pathetic. ha ha

Outstanding point Milo!! I had forgotten about that. I believe the Denver Broncos were involved as well and, from what I've heard, but honestly haven't done the research on, their salary cap tampering directly helped them win those two Superbowls. If anyone knows anything more on this I'd be delighted to hear it. If those tampering charged are true, then why the hell isn't there an asterisk against their Superbowl Championships of '98 and '99???

Thanks for pointing out what Pats fans have always known, Dave H: That the haters will give anyone but the Pats a pass for breaking the rules. Your argument is not driven by logic, but by blind hatred. I guess if you found out your best friend was a pedophile, you'd be OK with that, too.

Tomlinson is really something. Here it is: "LaDainian Tomlinson has proven himself worthy of the title as the NFL’s best player." The Haters call Tom Brady all kinds of things, but I can't see Brady ever having a website that would say such a thing. Brady might actually believe he's the best, but you'll never hear him say it. Like the rest of the team, he remains pretty damn humble unlike LT who clearly thinks he the best thing to happen to the NFL since Walter Payton. That's why the Pats have got to win on Sunday and why they probably will win.

I love your quote: "I am willing to overlook any alleged "tampering" the Broncos did, because John Elway is a cool dude who is nice enough to let his children actually live with him, instead of bouncing on his bastard children."
Is John Elway really that cool? Am I mistaken or is he the one who whined like a little bitch and demanded that the Indianapolis Colts trade him rather than have him attempt to rebuild their franchise? (Sounds kinda like Eli doesn't it?) Also, am I mistaken or was Elway also the one who was bitchy because Dan Marino had more passing yardage and records and then had head coach Dan Reeves fired as a result? I could be mistaken, but if these things are true then Elway doesn't seem like such a cool guy to me.

Broncos circumvented cap from 1996-98

NEW YORK -- The Denver Broncos have been fined $950,000 and will lose their third-round pick in next year's NFL draft for circumventing the salary cap between 1996-98.

The penalties were levied Thursday following an agreement involving the league, its union and the team.

The violations included agreements between the team and several players to defer salary payments with interest and an agreement not to waive a player before a certain date. Both raised issues with accounting for the salary cap.

In addition to the penalties against the team, the NFL said an agent for a former player agreed to donate $100,000 to charity. Neither the agent nor the player was identified.

"Don't tell me LT is not worthy of best player in the NFL monniker."
Obviously, you missed the point, Dave, which is that LT had the gall to say that ABOUT HIMSELF. Or, he gave approval to someone else to put that on his website.
It's one thing for someone else to say it, but he comes across as an arrogant little bitch when he proclaims it.

1:23 PM

They ARE the greatest team ever Dave, the entire game has changed and for every "Meet Ronnie Lott" comment you have I can tell you that ALL THE PLAYERS are bigger, stronger and quicker than back then. YOU are comparing apples to oranges my soccer fan friend. If anything, the Pats get points because this is supposed to be the age of parity.

"Anyone who knows football can clearly see that this is not the greatest team ever, they are just very good in an era of terrible NFL football."
Anyone who knows football knows that today's players are faster and stronger than previous NFL players — except, perhaps, the multitudes who were on roids. Weight training and conditioning has evolved light years in just the past 10 years.
And I don't think many people would agree with you that this current roster of NFL teams lacks depth, especially with teams like the Colts, The Chargers, Green Bay, etc. The 1972 Dolphins, by comparison, had a cakewalk to the Superbowl.
Of course, with a team as dominating as the Pats, I can see how you'd make that mistake.

1:34 PM
Blogger Dave Harrington said...

Yes, the NFL MVP has on his website that he's worthy of best player in the NFL. This makes him an "arrogant little bitch." This is the same website that details all of his community work and charity. What has Brady done? Here you go (from Boston.com):

While no other Boston athletes have let such a grand promise of charitable work go undone -- and several have established themselves as superstars of philanthropy -- the city's millionaire sports figures, including team leaders Tom Brady of the Patriots and Joe Thornton of the Bruins, collectively have returned little of their riches to community charities, according to a Globe review of tax records as well as interviews with players, team executives, and officials at nearly 25 of the city's leading nonprofit institutions.

If that website had number 21 with a Patriots logo instead of lightning bolts, you'd all be swinging on his nuts about what a great guy LT is.

1:35 PM
Blogger Dave Harrington said...

OK, milo, so what recent teams CAN we compare them to? You tell me...

Or is the "greatest team ever" merely the last team to win the SUper Bowl.

1:38 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dave you are so delusional.
Milo hit it on the head with his comment about parity. This isn't baseball. In this age of NFL salary caps, no one team is supposed to dominate like this. The Patriots' supremacy, I'm sure, is pissing off Roger Goodell to no end.

1:38 PM
Blogger Dave Harrington said...

PatsRule, I see what you are saying. But when you say "greatest team ever," to me that means greatest assemblage of talent, caoching and performance on the field, NOT relative to the rest of the teams in the league.

Granted, what they have done with personnel to keep winning is amazing, but to say they'd beat any other team in NFL history, I don't know.

Or do I not understand your definition of Greatest Team Ever?

Well, to re-post something from an earlier thread, before the season began Brady went on an eight-day trip to Ghana and Uganda, visiting health clinics and schools and speaking out about poverty and the AIDS epidemic there. (Oh, cue the predictable "Gaidy" comment here).
He also contributes to Active Force Foundation, which engineers, designs and provides adaptive sports equipment to people with physical disabilities. In addition to working with the Starlight Children’s Foundation of New England, he's a member of the ONE Campaign, dedicated to encouraging Americans to lobby Congress for a 1% budget increase in humanitarian aid to the developing world.

Patriots fans are so sad. Even when their team is on top and dominating the league, they are still as whiny as ever. I suppose it is in every Bostonian's blood. What they do not understand is that is does not matter if their team goes 19-0. The fact is that outside their circle, and maybe some sportscasters with unhealthy Brady fixations, no one is really going to cheer for them. Everyone else hates the Patriots. And, do not tell me you don't care... you would not be posting here. No one likes this team... they are not highly praised as other teams in the past, teams that were respected even by their rivals. No one outside of New England and the media likes these fools. Hey, I would love to see the Patriots lose just so I can read the silly arguments Pats fans would post about how they are the greatest team in history eventhough they didn't win the superbowl. But, if they do win and go 19-0, in my eyes they are still a bunch of jerks who had questionable practices in the past. Next season please.

We have Two Games to Glory and Football Immortality left. If we don't get two wins, the rest of the season doesn't matter. Is that pressure or what?
Haters, feel free to chime in. Who else besides Tom Brady can handle something like this? Peyton? 7-7 in the post-season. I don't think so. Montana or Elway? Maybe, but neither ever had a season like Brady's.

Usually, when a coach/player gets caught blatantly cheating in professional sports, suspensions followed by asterisks followed by court proceedings are what is usually expected. However, in the case of Belichoad, all that's necessary is a slap on the wrist, a draft pick or two, and the NFL commish taking the evidence, destroying it, and then saying everything was cool.

Has anyone heard the latest on Randy Moss? A woman in Florida took out a restraining order on him for an incident that supposedly happened on January 6. 2008. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7670204?MSNHPHMA

I'm sure the Haters are going to be all over this one whether it's true or not. If it is, and Moss did hurt this girl, then that's bullshit and he should be off the team.
However, if she made it up and/or is on the San Diego payroll, and supposedly asked for a six figure sum of money as Moss contends, then bitch ought to be sued for slander, forced to paint Gillette Stadium, wash the whole team's jockstraps, and be dragged through the snow in her underwear. Any other ideas for punishment?

NO PRISONERS. NO MERCY.

How about world-wide defamation, Chip?

But yeah, I was shocked to hear that, though I saw Randy Moss' reaction and he was pretty saddened rather than pissed off.

He said this entire season had been going SO WELL and he'd been trying to keep things positive, and now this loser comes up and says this about him....after knowing him for like what, 6 years? How stupid.

Though if Moss did actually do something bad, I am all for his suspension....it's just the timing, which is so crucial, that I think plays the suspicion factor here...

Sad day...

But I'm finding it hilarious that the two 81's have gotten sad right in a row. :)

Yeah, this sucks if it's true. But we don't know anything yet.

With Randy Moss, I do believe something did happen. In the Herald today, he did say that whatever happened was an accident, but that he never physically hit her. That doesn't mean he didn't do something else. Who knows. Moss probably didn't consult his lawyer before talking to the media. He kind of incriminated himself. But as to the severity of what happened, we'll probably never know.

The facts, that are being reported right now, is that she never dialed 911, never went to the police, never went to the hospital, and that her lawyer called his lawyer and demanded $500,000 right off the bat. These are interesting. To me, they suggest that she is pissed at him for whatever reason and that she, just like many of the money-grubbing women out there, wants to get paid. By Moss's own comments, something happened, but I highly doubt it was anything so severe to warrant $500,000, but we shall see.

Whatever the case, she's clearly fine, and right now I just want to see Moss put the torch to San Diego's secondary.

Says the fan of a team from the AFC (L)East! My dead dog could beat the teams in your team's division, asswipe. I'm not saying the Pats aren't good. They are. But great? If they were in any other division in the NFL, no way would they be undefeated. The AFC East is like the NFC North a couple of years ago. Talk to me in about five years. If the Pats are still relevant then, then we'll talk great. 80s 49ers they're not.

And what's with the no prisoners, no mercy crap? What are you guys, 14 year old UFC fans? Or just someone who lives vicariously through Tom Brady because you're a fantasy football loser who can't get a date? You crack me up. Here's a battle cry for you:

Hey Pats fans blow... good posting. You made some great points.

So, let's see, if Randy Moss knocks around chicks, and Pacman Jones knocks around hookers, will there be any repercussions for Mr. Moss? Well, with Roger Goodell's head so far up Bob Kraft's ass he can't see straight, I'm gonna venture a guess at NO. I do realize that Pacman Jones was a little extreme, but he lost a whole year of playing time. Moss should lose some playing time also, IF he's charged.

Trying to stay out of personal attacks; I just would like to submit that the Patriots are worth hating for a few reasons, all of which have been covered in hundreds of posts before, except one: The Patriots just aren't any fun at all. Brady never seems happy or proud, he's a robot, hard to route for, same with Belichick, Rodney Harrison may be the most annoying talker in the league, though Pats fans will overlook his arrogance and lack of sportsmanship, Asante Samuel used to seem to me a great kid, who played hard and that was all, and now he is a trash talking, flag-contesting, egomanical corner just like the other bad half of the leauge. All the middle-adged white men playing defence for the Pats are all on steroids and have been for quite some time (and that includes Seau). Speculation: Belichick encourages it.
